Daddy's Little Helper

Madison loves helping her dad! In these first pictures she wanted to go out in the cold weather and help him in the yard. She loved digging in the dirt with her shovel. She was out there for quite some time and didn't even want to come in when it was time for dinner. Jake is very excited at her young enthusiasm for gardening:) Madison also had lots of fun watching Jake put up the Christmas lights. I love her facial expressions, they make me laugh all the time!

Sad Christmas Tree

I really did water the Christmas tree at least every other day! We did have a beautiful Christmas tree and I am so glad it lived to see Christmas. Well, as long as you didn't breath on it or touch it because doing so would bring a shower of needles to the floor. Fire hazard, yes, so this tree came down shortly after Christmas. We took some pictures of what it looked like after taking the lights and ornaments off. The floor was covered in needles. It's a good thing we have a back porch where our beloved tree could make a graceful exit. O' Christmas tree, we will miss you! It's always sad to take the tree down.

Curl My Hair Please!

The other day when Madison saw me using the curling iron she said, "Mommy, can you curl my hair too! It will be soooo beautiful....and then I can go to the ball.....with the handsome prince....!" I thought, hmmm, curling the hair of a busy two year old, that sounds dangerous. However, to my surprise, Madison held very still. She was so excited to get her hair curled that she waited very patiently until it was done. What a cute girl!

Christmas Day

Christmas day was a lot of fun! I am not sure how much Madison understood about what Christmas was all about, but she definitely knew what to do with presents. She ran into the living room grabbed a present and opened it. After opening a present she looked around and saw her bike and of course the "purple cookie". The most simple request of all and she enjoyed every bite! Emerie also had lots of fun opening presents, eating wrapping paper and playing with her toys. She finally has a baby doll all her own that Madison can't claim. She still shares it with Madison, or as Madison would say, "Emmie is letting me hold her baby!" Emerie was all smiles and let out many squeals of excitement as we all opened presents. Late in the morning we had a wonderful Christmas brunch with some friends and then relaxed and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas day.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve we enjoyed a nice dinner with some friends and then came home for some fun family traditions. The girls were very excited about their Christmas Eve pajamas. They listened to the story of our Saviors birth and watched a nativity video. I am not sure if Madison knew what to expect on Christmas but she was very excited about her request for a purple cookie:)

Madison's First Snowman

Last week we had our first snow fall that actually stuck. Madison was screaming with excitement to go and play in the snow. She loved building a snowman with dad and especially loved it when dad threw snowballs at mom! Madison also decided to taste the snow! The verdict was that it tasted like candy. We made some snow angels and Madison even gave the snowman a hug (it looks like her face is stuck but she made it out alright). On Christmas we got rain and it melted all the snow. Madison asked me if I could make it snow again. If only I had that power:) Thank goodness it snowed again yesterday, more fun in the snow to come!

Nashville

Cinderella's Coach

Madison wanted to take a ride in Cinderella's coach so...I made one out of cardboard boxes. If you use your imagination and pretend you are 2 years old, this cardboard box really turns into a coach fit for a princess. Back when I was a junior high art teacher, I had a student who made some amazing things out of cardboard. He made laptops, cell phones, airplanes and much more. He is an inspiration when I whip out a new cardboard creation for my little girls:) It's amazing what you can do with a box.

Madison had lots of fun playing in her Cinderella coach. As you can see in this picture she is wearing a dress. Everyday she wants to wear a dress and "go to the ball". She has quite the imagination and it's fun to play along with her.

Right now as I am writing this she is singing herself to sleep. I think I have heard, Let's Go Fly a Kite, Twinkle Twinkle, Away in A Manger, and a few other mixes all her own. Last night she was telling her dolls how she isn't supposed to scream really loud when Emerie is sleeping. She then proceeded to give an example, several times. She screamed and then she said, like that. Jake and I get quite the laugh when we put our ears to the door.

Sweater Party

Last week some of our friends threw a sweater party. Who knew Goodwill (the local thrift store) would be all out of their Christmas sweaters. I think everyone in the store was looking for the same thing. The lady at the checkout said people started shopping for Christmas sweaters in October. We made due by buying silly sweaters and adding Christmas decor to what we were wearing. I guess we will keep our eyes out for Christmas sweaters a few months in advance:)

Eight Months Old!

Eight months old! Emerie just keeps getting cuter and cuter. She is such a sweetheart and still makes us laugh everyday. She makes lots of funny faces and noises. Her favorite noise sounds like a baby tiger growl. I really don't know how to describe it but it is truly unique. She loves to snuggle and read books. She has a shy smile and will look at you then hide her head in my chest. When she wakes up in the morning she is on her tummy, peaking through the bars of the crib and all smiles ready to play.

Madison is still learning how to be gentle and share with Emerie. Despite all the times she goes to time out for not being nice to her sister Madison has some really cute loving moments as well. As you can see in the pictures Madison is trying to comfort Emerie after she decided picture taking wasn't fun anymore. Madison was eating a piece of candy in those pictures to make her happy too:)

M stands for Mother???

You know you are a sleep deprived mother when you experience an embarrassing moment like this one. Last week Jake and I went to a residency recruitment dinner. Luckily we were the ones helping recruit and not needing to be recruited. People who are interviewing at Columbus for a residency program attend these dinners with a few current residents so they can answer any questions they may have about the program in a casual setting. After partaking of several free refills of my sprite I excused myself to the ladies room. The restrooms were just around the corner and I found myself standing in front of two big doors. One door had a big M on it and the other had a big W. The worst part about this story is that I had to pause, and think for a few seconds before going in the correct door. The other worst part of this story is that after thinking about it for a few seconds I chose the wrong door! What was I thinking??? M....for mother, mom, mommy, words that I hear all day. So, I walked in, saw a urinal, a few stalls, and high tailed it over to the other door. I am so lucky no one was in the bathroom, at least in my view. I could have suffered my embarrassing moment all by myself except that the bathrooms faced the bar. And... of course, there was an entire row of guys sitting at the bar facing the bathrooms. They were all staring at me with a big smile as I tried to casually walk back to my table hoping they would think I was a foreigner. I couldn't hide my bright red face, and had to explain to everyone at the table why the waiter at the bar walked over with a big smile and said, it's the one with the W. Oh, got to love those embarrassing moments. I say just keep with the stick figure images.

A Purple Cookie

Last week Madison told me she wanted to go see Santa Claus. We had talked a little bit about Santa and read some books with Santa in them but I was kind of surprised that she wanted to go see him. So, this last Saturday we took a trip over to the mall and she was very excited to sit on his lap and tell him what she wanted for Christmas. As soon as she saw Santa she started screaming with excitement and then Emerie started screaming with excitement too (we made quite the scene). After waiting in a small line, and making past the scary "Christmas Story" elf (I think she needs a new job around the holidays) Madison sat on Santa's lap and told him she wanted a purple cookie for Christmas. It was such a cute and simple wish. I am sure Santa will be able to fill her request. What a cute little girl!

Madison's spotlight!

Now that Madison has turned two let me tell you a little bit about her personality. For those of you who know Madison, she is a very funny girl, and a girly girly at that. As you can see from these pictures she loves to dress up! She loves to try on shoes. Her shoes, mom and dads shoes, and even visitors at the house (if you can't find your shoes on the way out, Madison might have them). Even from a very young age she wanted to wear dresses, necklaces, and things that she thought were beautiful. She has put together quite the outfit combinations and with a big smile she says, " I am pretty like a princess!" Madison loves to have her toenails painted and yesterday she wanted me to curl her hair. She held surprisingly still and the end result was adorable. A few weeks ago my hair was up in a messy pony tail and Madison got really sad and told me I needed to fix my hair. She wouldn't stop crying until I fixed it and then she said, "That looks so much better! So beautiful mommy, your hair is so cute!"

Madison loves being social, playing with other kids, and going to parties.

She gets so excited when people come to play or whenever she gets to play at her friends house. Just today as we were pulling into the garage she said, "No, no, mom! I want to go play at somebodys house. Let's see in anybody is home."

Madison has always impressed us with her language skills. From a very young age she has been a talker and would always surprise people in the store when she greeted them with a big Hi. Even at 20 months she was singing songs and talking in full sentences. Some of the cute words she used to say were, "It's stucking" when something was stuck, and "Num-anie!", when something was very yummy and she called mangos fla-mangos. Talking early has also had its challenging times becuase of the little bit of sass Madison will pull out. She loved to say no way which was redirected into no thank you:)

Madison loves going to the playground with her daddy and told Jake he is her handsome prince. Back in August she told us she wants to get married. She used to tell us that she wants to marry daddy but when we told her he was already taken she decided she wanted to marry a pink boy. Of course, pink is her favorite color.

Madison loves to help me cook and clean. I usually let her put in some of the ingredients and if I'm not in a bug hurry I let her crack an egg in her own bowl. It's always a fun mess with Madison helping. When cleaning she will get a baby wipe and scrub the floor like Snowwhite and likes to use the Swiffer when we shorten it to her size.

The other night when I put Madison to bed she asked me for a dream. I said, what kind of a dream. She said a Snowwhite dream:) She usually falls asleep singing or talking to her dolls. I need to put a tape recorder in there so I can record what she says. It's usually pretty funny.

There is a little bit about our funny little girl! We love, you Madison, you have grown up so much and we are so lucky to have you in our family!

The Party!

The party was a lot of fun and turned out surprisingly well with the age group we had. The girls were so cute dressed up in their princess outfits. We had two prince charmings there as well.

When the kids arrived they had fun coloring on the giant storybook page (great idea from my cousin Suzy) and playing on the slide. They had princess story time and then we played some fun toddler games.We'll call the first game bibity, bopity, boo. In this game everyone was given a fairy godmother wand. They all got a chance to be fairy godmothers and turn everyone in the room into their favorite animal. It was fun to watch the kids run around as puppies, frogs, ponies, kitties, and.... many more! The next game was Disney freeze dancing. This was a chance for the kids to dance and wiggle all they wanted until the music stopped freezing them in their tracks. They were so fun to watch and I was amazed at some of their moves!

Happy Birthday Madison!

At the end of November Madison turned two! Wow, I can't believe how grown up she is! I have more pictures and birthday details to come but for now here is a picture of Madison enjoying a pink cupcake at her princess party!
